The future of the Digital Product Passport starts with you

DESCRIPCIÓN
The coming into force of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) marks a turning point for European industry. Once implemented, virtually any physical product placed on the EU market will be required to have a Digital Product Passport (DPP), a tool designed to collect and share key information on a product’s origin, composition, use and end of life.
Beyond the legal mandate, the deployment of the Digital Product Passport poses a major technical and strategic challenge: how to ensure the traceability of millions of products throughout their entire life cycle without relying on large, centralised databases that are difficult to govern and scale. Addressing this challenge requires progress in interoperability, trust and data control across the entire value chain.
In this context, BAIDATA is actively involved in the European project CIRPASS-2, the European Union’s flagship initiative to prepare the rollout of the Digital Product Passport. Through its work within the consortium, BAIDATA contributes to defining common approaches and solutions that will enable a secure, interoperable DPP aligned with the EU’s sustainability and circular economy objectives.
However, while the regulatory framework and technical work continue to advance, public awareness and acceptance of the Digital Product Passport remain very limited. For many people, the DPP is still an unfamiliar and abstract concept, and its practical value—such as enabling access to reliable information or fostering trust in product sustainability credentials—has yet to be fully understood.
This gap between regulatory ambition and consumer perception is a critical factor in the success of the DPP. Without the understanding and trust of end users, the passport risks becoming just another requirement, underused and perceived as complex or irrelevant.
We want to hear your view on the Digital Product Passport
To better understand this reality, BAIDATA has launched a survey to assess consumers’ perceptions and acceptance of the Digital Product Passport, including the factors that influence trust, the value people associate with it, and their willingness to use it. The results will help identify key barriers, opportunities and levers to support its adoption.
The survey is part of a research study within the European project CIRPASS-2, an Innovation Action funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Programme, aimed at preparing and accelerating the effective deployment of Digital Product Passports across different industrial sectors in Europe.
