Commission publishes Frequently Asked Questions about the Data Act

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the Data Act are designed to support its implementation across the EU.

The Data Act establishes a horizontal framework for data access and use, ensuring the protection of fundamental rights while promoting economic and societal benefits. It increases the availability of data—particularly industrial data—and fosters data-driven innovation, ensuring fair allocation of data value among all participants in the data economy. The Data Act will become applicable on 12 September 2025. Alongside the Data Governance Act, which builds trust in voluntary data-sharing mechanisms, it aims to create a genuine single market for data, positioning Europe as a leader in the global data economy.
