The second edition of the BAIDATA Forum is back!


BAIDATA is the association for the development of the data economy in the Iberian Peninsula, headquartered in Bilbao. We have about 50 pioneering organizations and clusters fully committed to the development of the data economy and high quality sovereign data spaces.

Coinciding again with the EU Data Week 2023, next June 14th we will celebrate the II BAIDATA Forum. This is an event aimed at individuals and companies that want to know how European Data Spaces boost the competitiveness of companies; learn about the latest technological developments and trends in the field of industrial data sharing; and discover how BAIDATA members are deploying pioneering initiatives in the Iberian Peninsula.

Through various panels, the latest cutting-edge solutions will be presented and the most recent advances in the deployment of data ecosystems and new models focused on the data economy will be shared, and the challenges that companies face to valorize their data and incorporate these new business models will be discussed.

          Ainara Basurko

          Her professional career began as a consultant in the strategy area of LKS Consultores (1997-2002). Since then, her career has been closely linked to regional competitiveness and business development, activities that she has developed in the field. Thus, between 2004 and 2015 she was manager of the Lea Artibai Regional Development Agency, focusing on regional economic development. And from 2002 to 2015 she was the director of the Azaro Foundation, whose mission is to contribute to the competitiveness of the Lea Artibai region by supporting the creation of innovative and/or technology-based companies in the area and the processes of innovation and diversification of existing companies. In 2015, he took over the General Management of Beaz, a regional company of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia whose mission is to promote entrepreneurship and the competitiveness of the business fabric of the territory.

Towards the end of her studies, she co-founded a start-up in the online sector Afterwards, she gained experience in brand consulting and business development at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, among other positions. As a Policy Officer in the field of digitization and Industry 4.0, she is responsible for topics such as Manufacturing-X, Catena-X, and the Platform Industry 4.0.

          Lars Nagel

          Lars Nagel is the CEO of the International Data Spaces Association. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) from Technical University of Dortmund. He worked as a research fellow at the Chair of Materials Handling and Warehousing at Technical University of Dortmund. His fields of experience were material flow systems and organisation of large-scale networks. For six years he was Head of strategic development of Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. Parallel he was Member of the executive board of EffizienzCluster Management GmbH from May 2010 until August 2013, managing one of 15 leading-edge clusters of the BMBF. From 2013 until 2016 he was CEO of GlobalGate GmbH, a consulting company for corporate learning and knowledge transfer.

She also has a very well established and high-level network as well as in-depth knowledge and international mindset. Since May 2023 Ute is Member of the Board of Directors of International Data Spaces Association IDSA.

          Andreas Faath

          Andreas Faath, Managing Director, VDMA Machine Information Interoperability is responsible for the Interoperability activities effecting the mechanical engineering industry including OPC UA. Regarding OPC UA he manages the development of the so called “Global Production Language” in which more than 600 companies worldwide are involved. This positions him as an important contact for the international mechanical and plant engineering industry regarding OPC UA standardization and intelligent production. Due to the close cooperation with numerous companies in the mechanical and plant engineering industry, he represents their wishes and requirements in those fields. Prior to his employment at the VDMA, Mr. Faath studied mechanical and plant engineering and was a scientist at the Technical University of Darmstadt with focus on Digitalization and IIOT. Afterwards he worked in research and development for process optimization and digitalization in the field of vehicle testing at General Motors.

          President of BADIATA and Managing Director of Inetum. He also currently has the honour and the opportunity to chair the Basque cluster of knowledge industries and applied technology, GAIA. This cluster, in which some 311 companies participate, has the mission of promoting the development and growth of Basque companies in the Engineering-Consulting, Electronics-Computing and Telecommunications sectors.

          Laurent Lafaye

          French entrepreneur, co-CEO of Dawex, Laurent Lafaye has a recognized track record in the field of the data economy and regularly speaks to decision-makers about the creation of data ecosystems and the challenges of data circulation, from data trading to developing data hubs and data marketplaces. Co-founded in 2015 by Laurent Lafaye and Fabrice Tocco, Dawex allows organizations to create new ecosystems around data exchange platforms that meet regulatory requirements and address traceability and security challenges. Dawex technology enables economic stakeholders to value the potential of their ecosystem through data exchange. In 2020, Dawex was awarded “Tech Pioneer” by the World Economic Forum, joined the Global Future Council on Data Policy and spoke at Davos in 2022 about creating trust in data exchanges. Dawex is also the initiator of an international standardization program on “Trusted Data Transaction”.

He is Member of the Executive Committee of the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) and of some international committees working on standards, one of them is the OSIS committee (Optical Sensor Interface Standard) of the ia.cmm. Former Manager of the Computer Vision Centre (CVC). Author of a great variety of technical papers and seminars in Computer Vision, Image Processing, 3D Vision and Virtual Metrology for the industrial and medical areas.

          Dr. Oscar Lazaro is Director of Innovalia. He supported the EC DIH I4MS Programme set up and leads the WEF Advanced Manufacturing HUB (AMHUB), IDSA Hub in Spain. He is board member of the BAIDATA, EIT Digital Spanish CLC and actively engaged with the Data Space Support Centre (DSSC) and Digital Factory Alliance (DFA) activities, from where he led the set-up of the Data Space 4.0 initiative. He is representative of Innovalia in EFFRA, GAIA-X and BDVA. He led EU OpenDEI Think Tank on multilateral Digital Value Chains (DVC).

          In 2001 he founded Dinycon Sistemas, a pioneering engineering company in Spain and Europe in people and vehicle counting, developing its own technology with a focus on SMART CITY with the aim of optimising the management of people and vehicle mobility. All based on the information technologies applied to buildings and threaded with the concept of Smart City. The city councils of Barcelona, Bilbao, Santander, San Sebastian, La Coruña and a long list of public institutions are some examples of how we have applied our people counting solutions in Libraries, Cultural Centres, Fairgrounds, Sports facilities. Eroski , Perfumerías IF or Shopping Centres such as Max Center in Getxo are other examples for the Retail sector. Large references such as Renfe, Adif or Metro de Bilbao for Stations, Ports or Airports complete their offer.           Francisco Javier Seoane

          He was born in Barakaldo in 1964. He holds a degree in Law from the Public University of the Basque Country and a postgraduate degree in Administrative Management from the University of Alcalá de Henares (1992). Since 2020, he has been General Manager of Euskotren (Eusko Trenbideak-Ferrocarriles Vascos S.A.). Between 2015 and 2020 he held the position of General Manager of the Bizkaia Transport Centre APARKABISA. He is a member of the Bar Association of Bizkaia. Bar Association of Bizkaia, (June 1989) and practised as a lawyer until 2015. During the term of office of Lehendakari Patxi López, he was a member of the Legal Department of Metro Bilbao SA.

          Graduate in Business Administration and Management (2004) and Master in Management Development (2004) from the Commercial University of Deusto, he began his professional experience at Deloitte, in the financial audit of industrial and service companies, where he worked for a year. Since 2005, he has been the director of Orue, a residential social-health centre and supervised flats in Amorebieta-Etxano, and has also been a teacher and director at Orue Eskola (2006-2011) and a leisure and free time instructor for a decade (2000-2010). He assumed his first responsibilities in the Public Administration in July 2011 as General Director of Social Insertion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and in January 2013 he assumed the position of General Director of Promotion of Personal Autonomy, in which he has also remained during the legislature 2015-2019, the latter year in which he has acceded to the position of Provincial Deputy of Social Action.

          As a Developer in the Arsys innovation lab, Mario Petruzzella collaborates in different R&D&I initiatives of the company, aimed at facilitating the development of innovative technological solutions in the IT services market and boosting the digital transformation of companies. Mario Petruzzella is a Technical Engineer in Computer Management and with a background in agile methodologies and backend and frontend technologies, he joined Arsys as a developer in 2015 after a decade as an analyst and programmer in different sectors. Since 2022 he is part of the Arsys Lab team, the company's innovation lab, and collaborates in various initiatives of the technological ecosystem that are driving the Data Economy in Europe, such as Gaia-X. He also participates in various innovation projects based on technologies such as blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Web 3.0.

          Computer Engineer with a Master's degree in Robotics and Automotive. She has been working for CARSA since 1991. She has been responsible for the coordination of R&D projects. Since 1998 she has been working as manager of the company SQS. She has been responsible for the definition and implementation of verification and validation activities for various types of systems, including safety critical systems. She is responsible for the design and implementation of development process improvement activities.

          Thorsten Huelsmann is CFO of International Data Spaces since 2016. He studied Economic Geography, Organisational Sociology and Political Sciences at the universities of Bonn and Bologna. From 2000 to 2002 Thorsten worked as research fellow at the universities of Bonn and Bristol. From 2002 to 2010 he worked as project manager and deputy head of unit at the Economic Development Agency Dortmund. In 2010 he was appointed as CEO of EffizienzCluster Management GmbH, renamed into Digital Hub Management GmbH in 2021. In 2016 he was appointed additionally as CFO of International Data Spaces Association and in 2021 additionally as CFO of Open Logistics Foundation.

          Diego Mallada is a Telecommunications Engineer specialising in Communications from the University of Zaragoza. He also holds a Master Science in Computer Science from the Carlos III University and a Master in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence from the Instituto de Empresa (IE). He combines his role as IT Digital Director at Gestamp with teaching at several Universities and Business Schools on Big Data, IoT, Business Intelligence, Software, Artificial Intelligence, and Entrepreneurship. He is also the Head of Technology of the IndesIA Consortium in which Gestamp is a Founding Partner. The multidisciplinary technical team he leads at Gestamp develops the software products and platforms related to the Company's Industry 4.0 strategy, which are used by the Group's plants globally.

          Prof. Dr.-Ing. Boris Otto is the Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST in Dortmund and holds the Chair of Information Management at the Technical University of Dortmund. His research focuses on data spaces, data sovereignty and industrial data management. Boris Otto is a board member of Gaia-X, the International Data Space Association (IDSA), and the Catena-X Automotive network.

          Leyre Madariaga

          Much of his professional experience has been focused on international relations, especially the commercialisation of services, especially those with a high technological component. In addition, I have a deep knowledge of trade policy instruments and relations with international organisations. I have also been a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

          Ane Miren Ibáñez

          Graduate in Law. For more than twenty years she has worked in leading companies in the Basque Country. Since 2019, she has been the director of BilbaoTIK, the technology company of Bilbao City Council.

          By road

          From the A8 freeway, take the San Mamés exit and drive along Avenida Sabino Arana until you reach the Sagrado Corazón traffic circle, where you will find the Euskalduna Palace and its parking lot.


          By plane

          The International Airport of Bilbao - Loiu is 15 minutes away by cab. Bizkaibus line A3247 connects the airport with the center of Bilbao.


          By train

          Abando station is about 25 minutes walk from the Euskalduna Palace. There is the possibility of direct connection with metro and streetcar.


          By underground

          From San Mamés station - Sabino Arana exit - it is only a 5 minute walk to Palacio Euskalduna.


          By streetcar

          The Euskalduna stop on the Bilbao streetcar line is right next to the Euskalduna Palace.


          By bus

          City bus lines 26-56-62 have a stop at the Plaza del Sagrado Corazón, right in front of the Palace.
