European Commission tasks CEN, CENELEC and ETSI with developing a European Trusted Data Framework
December 01, 2025
DESCRIPCIÓN
The European Commission has formally asked the three European standardisation organisations, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, to develop a European Trusted Data Framework (ETDF). This initiative aims to translate the principles of the Data Act into practical technical standards and governance rules that can be applied across sectors and borders.
The framework will build on seven European standards aligned with the recommendations of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization and developed in consultation with the European Data Innovation Board and key stakeholder groups. The request has now been officially adopted and accepted by the three organisations.
The ETDF is expected to become a cornerstone for secure and interoperable data sharing in Europe, ensuring that the rules defined in the Data Act, the Data Governance Act and the AI Act can be implemented consistently in real-world systems.
