The Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster Launches the First Mobility and Logistics Data Space in Euskadi

March 02, 2026

DESCRIPCIÓN

The Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster (MLC ITS Euskadi), led by its manager Fernando Zubillaga, continues to strengthen its role as a driving force for intelligent and sustainable mobility in Euskadi with the launch of the region’s first Mobility and Logistics Data Space. The initiative builds on over two decades of experience promoting collaborative projects that integrate digitalization, innovation, and public-private cooperation.

At the core of this strategy is DS4MOVEUS (Data Space for Mobility), the demonstrator center developed by the cluster to accelerate the adoption of data spaces in the sector. This project structures and harmonizes mobility data—traditionally dispersed and heterogeneous—through common standards and a governance model that ensures interoperability, data sovereignty, and trust among participants.

The new Mobility and Logistics Data Space aims to enable secure and efficient data sharing between administrations, operators, technology companies, and other ecosystem actors. This approach allows the development of real use cases related to transport planning, sustainable urban logistics, multimodality, and supply chain optimization, improving both public decision-making and business competitiveness.

One of the most notable features is that joining the data space will be free of charge, thanks to support from the Data Space Kit program, allowing companies and organizations to access this digital infrastructure without facing initial financial barriers. This measure is intended to accelerate participation from the Basque business ecosystem, especially SMEs, and promote broader and more effective adoption of the model.

As Zubillaga emphasizes, advancing toward connected, interoperable, and data-driven mobility is only possible through close collaboration between the public and private sectors, supported by clear governance, security, and legitimate data use frameworks. With this new step, Euskadi positions itself as a reference in building mobility-focused data spaces, aligned with European strategies and designed to generate tangible impact on the economy and citizens’ quality of life.
